HOLLYWOOD, CA May 3, 2004--It has been a long road, but the monument for the first movie in Hollywood “In Old California” is being dedicated with a ceremony and gala event. Biograph (The oldest movie company in America) who made the film back in 1910 has been working for over five years for this to become a reality.

The monument will be placed at 1718 Vine Street on May 6th, 2004. Following the monument dedication will be a V. I. P. reception at the Forbidden City Restaurant next to where the monument will be. That evening the screening of the film will kick off the Beverly Hills Film Festival followed by a gala event. This is the first time the film has been seen by the public since 1910. The Beverly Hills Film Festival screening will start May 6th, at 6:00PM PDT. For ticket information about the screening go to www.beverlyhillsfilmfestival.com.

The monument is made by Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and constructed of black granite that will be emblazoned with the photos of the pioneers of Biograph who began the movie industry over a century ago.

Thomas Bond, II CEO says “We are very happy this historic film is recognized. Its impact on Hollywood and its multi-cultural theme bridges time”. It is significant not just being Hollywood’s first film, but the subject matter is about the Latinos in early in California.

It is a drama of Mexico-owned California, and is an insight into the life and times of the history of Mexico, Spain, and Mexican-Americans in California. Since this was the subject matter chose for the first movie in Hollywood, it shows the importance Latinos played in the beginning of Hollywood and the movie industry.

Long time supporters are Congressman Henry Waxman and Mayor James Hahn. Congressman Henry Waxman writes “When this film was made in 1910, few could have imagined the tremendous impact that the film industry would have on Hollywood, California and, indeed, the world. Waxman goes on to say “I am pleased that Biograph Company will memorialize this important film which has made a significant historical contribution to the film industry”.

Mayor Hahn states “Little did anyone know the broader historical significance this film would have”. Mayor Hahn continues “The glamour of Hollywood draws a significant portion of the overall tourism to Los Angeles. Hollywood is in the midst of a renaissance, and the Biograph monument will bring visitors and residents a greater understanding of the role of motion pictures in Hollywood’s history”.

Biograph is not just a historical company. Biograph is the last truly independent film companies, involved in television and commercial production as well. Plans are to for Biograph to be an integral part of the district of Hollywood, with its independent films, charitable events, a live glass studio on Hollywood Boulevard, and even live stage and theatrical productions.

Biograph’s CEO Thomas Bond II concludes "This exciting historic event that will again perpetuate the history of Hollywood, and will be the seed to the beginning of the great new Hollywood on the horizon”.
